Abstract

Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) includes both past and future directed cognitive processing via rumination and worry. As a transdiagnostic symptom dimension, RNT is linked to many mental health risks including major depression disorder (MDD) and anxiety. A recent model of RNT proposed that RNT may be associated with aberrant learning of current contextual cues as well as re-learning of negatively processed previous events. Given that interoceptive processing in the brain distinguishes individuals with mental health risks from healthy comparisons, we examined propensity matching RNT groups on a visceral interoceptive attention task using fMRI.
