Abstract

(mean age 69.9). There were no significant differences between the groups for any of the pupil measurements under all of the stimulus conditions evaluated. There were no differences between the groups for any of the heart rate measurements but the AD group had lower systolic blood pressure readings than the control group which were statistically significant for the third seated reading (131 vs 146 mmHg; p = 0.016) and after standing for 3 minutes (128 vs 144 mmHg; p = 0.017). Conclusions: These findings do not support the previous observations of AD-related changes in pupillary bebaviour but are consistent with other studies which have noted differences in blood pressure between AD subjects and normals, raising the possibility that AD might be associated with altered autonomic function.
