Abstract

Anxiety and depression are highly comorbid, yet existing research examines these disorders as distinct categories. This approach has shown opposite neuroanatomical findings; anxiety with volumetric increases in threat, reward, and emotion regulation-related regions and depression has been associated with volumetric reductions in these same regions. A dimensional model of psychopathology may provide insight into mechanisms underlying comorbidity and improve specificity and sensitivity of structural abnormalities.
