Abstract

Although fear is essential for survival, excessive fear characterizes many neuropsychiatric disorders. The nucleus accumbens (NAc) plays a role in encoding and responding to aversive stimuli by integrating input from several brain regions including the ventral hippocampus (vHIP) and prefrontal cortex (PFC). Here we investigate how neural activity in these projections is shaped by aversive experiences.
