Abstract

Achromobacter are opportunistic pathogens increasingly isolated in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Despite recent advances, their virulence factors remain incompletely studied. Particularly, ironchelating molecules called siderophores have not yet been studied in CF Achromobacter isolates although being major bacterial virulence factors. The aims of our study were: I) to characterize the production of siderophores by Achromobacter spp. isolated from CF patients, II) to compare results to strains from non-CF patients to search for specific virulence characteristics that may be observed in the CF context.
