Abstract

Although the effect of temperature (T) modulation on cardiac myocyte ion channel function has been studied, the specific response of pacing stimulation thresholds (Thx) has not. Currently, there are efforts being made to create implantable pacing systems that are safe for patients to undergo MRI scans. It is known that these implanted systems will likely heat due to the pulsed RF energy and will generate current pulses from the gradient magnetic fields. It is hypothesized that the ventricular (V) pacing Thxs will decrease with T.
