Abstract

Rodent and human studies suggest the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) region is important for susceptibility to depression. We showed that humans at family risk for depression have decreased DG structure, which predicts future, but not current or past, depressive symptoms. Here we elucidate genetic and environmental mechanisms underlying our previous findings of decreased DG structure in offspring at risk for depression.
