Abstract

The Asthma Impairment and Risk Questionnaire (AIRQ™) is a 10-item, yes/no, control tool (patient-reported prior 2-week symptom impairment and 12-month exacerbation risk) cross-sectionally validated in 442 patients aged ≥12 years participating in a larger longitudinal study. Against Asthma Control Test (ACT™)+prior-year exacerbations, cut-points of <2 yes responses showed sensitivity of 0.90 to identify well-controlled and ≥5 a specificity of 0.96 to identify very poorly controlled asthma. We evaluated a 3-month AIRQ™ that utilized the same impairment and risk items but with prior 3-month exacerbation questions to determine feasibility of repetitive use over shorter time-periods than yearly.
