Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer remains the leading malignancy affecting women in the United States. There are well-accepted clinical guidelines for early detection of breast cancer through mammography and clinical breast examination. The purpose of this study was to determine trends in the utilization of these techniques over the past 5 years. Methods: The National Health Interview Survey is a population-based computer-assisted personal household interview survey of non-institutionalized civilian Americans conducted annually by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
