Abstract

The occasional presence of asystolic pauses following monophasic defibrillation shocks in recipients of 1st & 2nd generation ICDs was one reason that bradycardia pacing was incorporated into 3rd generation ICDs. To date, we know of no studies that examine the prevalence of post-shock asystole following termination of ventricular arrhythmias by newer-generation biphasic-waveform ICDs with transvenous leads.
