Abstract

AbstractWavelength dispersion of refractive indices of compensation films causes the problems of light leakage and color shift at oblique incident angles in the black state of liquid crystal displays. We propose a self‐compensated phase retardation (SPR) film reducing the light leakage stemming from the wavelength dispersion of compensation films. Numerical calculations show that SPR films suppress the leaked light significantly more than the state‐of‐art compensation scheme used in vertical alignment mode liquid crystal displays.
