Abstract

Among patients with bipolar disorder (BD), increased body mass index (BMI) is associated with a higher risk of any mood episode recurrence, mood symptom burden, and worse global functioning. Some studies have shown a link between metabolic changes and brain abnormalities, which may help explain the relationship between a higher BMI and poor behavioral outcomes. However, few studies have explored this association among youth with BD.
