Abstract
Introduction: Over the last few years, there have been a number of articles about the problems facing the specialty of Cardiothoracic Surgery, particularly with regard to attracting the best individuals into Cardiothoracic Surgery training programs. This project provides opportunities for interested medical students to gain adequate exposure to Cardiothoracic Surgery and learn methods of conducting research. Methods: Selected first year medical students are each assigned a Cardiothoracic Surgery faculty mentor and a clinical database research project to complete during their 8 weeks summer break.
