Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) was originally intended to restore lordosis, but multiple studies have questioned that capability. With increased focus on sagittal alignment in degenerative disease as well as deformity, it has been theorized that anteroposterior lumbar fusion (AP) might provide better restoration of lordosis than TLIF. This is particularly relevant in patients with mechanical disc collapse, where associated kyphosis is a frequent finding.
