Abstract

Introduction: Surgical site infections (SSI) increase post-operative morbidity for patients and causes delays in adjuvant treatment. Multiple confounding factors play a role in the incidence of SSI during the peri-operative period. Following GIRFT recommendation, we audited our SSI rates in the department of breast surgery, implemented a revised SSI prevention bundle and re-audited SSI. A parallel random perioperative audit was prospectively undertaken to assess compliance.
