Abstract

Mood disturbance induced by sleep loss is proposed to be due to changes in sleep neurophysiology and immune function, although empirical data confirming this relationship are sparse. This laboratory study examined whether slow-wave activity during sleep and peripheral interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels were associated with self-report of mood disturbance, anxiety, and depression in healthy adults.
