Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Two-year results of a prospective randomized US-FDA study, comparing patients with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) treated with the X STOP Interspinous Process Decompression System to conservative treatment, have demonstrated significant difference in outcome in favor of the X STOP (Zucherman et al., 2004). A 2-arm cohort study on data from the US-FDA study and the Swedish Spine Registry showed beneficial outcome according to the SF-36 for the X STOP surgery as well as for decompressive surgery.
