Abstract

Introduction: Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction (PMBR) is an important part of the multidisciplinary care of breast cancer patients. Despite the improved quality of life, significant racial disparities in the receipt of PMBR exist. Although breast cancer is more common in white women, there has been rising numbers in Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups, which is reflected in the changing demographic of the United Kingdom (UK), with emerging reports that incidence is approaching parity. Our review aims to identify the barriers and facilitators influencing the uptake of PMBR and raise awareness on interventions that could improve uptake of PMBR in BAME women.
