Abstract

In this article, we disclose Quantum rods (QRs) with T‐shape ligands for the fabrication of photoaligned, ink‐jet printed, Quantum Rod Enhancement Film (QREF) that offers wide color gamut and polarized emission, and thus, improves the performance of the modern LCDs. T‐shape ligands manipulate the alignment orientation of the anisotropic semiconductor QRs as well as further improve the compatibility between liquid crystal polymer (LCP) and QRs. These ligands induce a cooperative alignment for QRs in the LCP matrix, and therefore, greatly improve the brightness and degree of polarization of QREFs at the higher concentrations of QRs, which is perfectly suitable for the application in Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs). With these ligands, we have been able to achieve an LCD with brightness ~560 nits and the color triangle of 96.9% BT2020.
