Abstract

Tobacco use disorder has a chronic course that is characterized by repeated relapse. Previous studies have revealed several triggers of relapse, including stress and exposure to drug-related cues. While literature suggests that both stress and memory system play a critical role in relapse to addiction, it remains unclear (1) how stress affects drug-specific memory performance and (2) whether the associative memory of smoking-related cues is related to craving and emotional experience.
