Abstract

Aims & Objectives: In March 2020 is when the first case of COVID19 is recognized in Guatemala. The governement develop a Campaign Hospital in Exposition Hall in Guatemala City as the larger response in the country. The teamwork and competences of the staff recruited to this hospital is a challenge to pack as rapid response team in ongoin crisis. Postgraduate students and Simulation instructors develop a boot camp program. Methods: A boot camp on field based in simulation were performed to new hired staff in Campiagn Hospital. Postgraduate students form Internal Medicine, Surgery and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation take the leadership as Rapid Response Team in improve the opportunity of treatment and attention in a not well defined scenario. Simulation Instructors from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala share with them the design of the on going boot camp training based in decision making, knowledge and skills. From April to August 2020. Results: 110 health workers are trained. The core course includes hand washing, COVID 19 recognition, triage, clinical approach, intubation sequence with videolaringoscope, mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and corpse disposition. It is based in checklist and the scenarios development with debriefing take 5 hours in 1 day course. The staff are doctors, nurses and respiratory therapist. Developed in situ in the Intensive Care Unit place until be finished and opened to patients. Conclusions: Simulation on filed is a better response tool to imporve teamwork and integrative decision making by healthworkers; the hard and soft competences spread are as importat as the knowledge described in the guidelines.
