Abstract
During last years, the role of 3D/4D ultrasound in fetal brain examination became much more noticeable. In order to study the efficiency of colour Doppler mapping and 3D/4D ultrasound using modern volume colour Doppler software, 128 3D/4D ultrasound examinations were made. We studied 123 pregnant women from 11 to 37 weeks of gestation with normal pregnancies. In all cases healthy babies were delivered in time, weighing 3180-3780 g, APGAR 8-9, without any abnormalities in CNS functions. The ultrasound exposure time was reduced to a couple of seconds and was followed by detailed virtual examination using modern software. Volume reconstruction of bloodstream, in most cases, made it possible to track the accordance of major brain structures development (corpus colosum, sulci, gyri, tentorium of cerebellum etc.) to blood vessels development. The amount of revealed vessels greatly increased at 19-28 weeks of gestation. At 28-37 weeks of gestation the amount of revealed vessels increased due to probe shifting in corresponding plane. The amount of visualized sulci, also increased with gestational age. In most cases the visualization of a blood vessel in a corresponding sulcus using CDM, was 2 weeks prior to visualisation of a sulcus itself. The visualisation of blood vessels is two or more weeks earlier than the visualisation of the corresponding sulci.
