Abstract

The study about mode II fatigue crack propagation behavior weren't coducted enough because the fatigue crack propagation tests under mode II loading were very difficult in a laboratory. As a traditional mode II fatigue test, fatigue test under torsion in thin-walled tubular specimens materialized the propagation of mode II fatigue crack. However, when the measure of thin-walled part was about 1mm, fatigue crack is propagating under mixed mode in depth direction. Therefore it doesn't necessarily propagate under pure mode II. In this study the propagation behavior of mode II fatigue crack in a film of low-carbon steel is investigated. As a result fatigue crack initiated between pearlite garains by those constrain and it arrested without own propagating. Then slip band initiated around fatigue crack and fatigue crack formed newly and both cracks coalescing. It's contemplated that the propagation of fatigue crack was greatly influenced of metallurgical factor such as slip system of crystal grain.
