Abstract

Breast referrals through the two weeks wait (2ww) referral pathway are steadily rising but conversion to cancer rates remain in single figures. This is putting unprecedented pressure on finite resources and staff. The aim of this study was to assess concordance between General Practitioner (GP) clinical examination with patient final outcome to determine if targeted education in primary care would help reduce referrals by empowering GPs to manage such patients in the community. A retrospective clinical review was conducted at the Nottingham Breast Institute (NBI) of 2ww referrals over randomly selected days in a 3-month window with 430 patients being analysed.
