Abstract

Background Breast cancer is the second most common malignancy disorder in the world. Anxiety and depressive disorders are common among women with breast cancer and affect various aspects of their quality of life. Our aim is to study relationship between depression, anxiety, and quality of life in women with breast cancer. Methods One hundred patients (mean age, 43.3 years old) were selected through non-random convenient sampling procedure from the hospitals and clinics in Kermanshah city. The measures used in the study included a demographic questionnaire, EORTCQLQ-C30 (version 3) Questionnaire, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Findings The results revealed a significant correlation between patient scores on the subscales of the QLQ-C30 and HADS. There was a negative significant correlation between depression and anxiety with functional subscales of QLQ-C30 (physical, role, emotional, functional, cognitive, social and global quality of life) (p Interpretation Increasing rates of depression and anxiety are associated with reducing quality of life. Depression and anxiety in breast cancer patients can be important factors in their health and quality of life. Measurements—as well as treatment—of depression and anxiety could be used to promote psychological health and quality of life.
