Abstract

Abstract In order to extend our earlier work (1–2) on II–VI compounds, differential thermal analysis (DTA) was used to determine the melting curves and phase transitions of HgSe and HgTe at gas pressure up to 2.05 GPa In the case of HgTe, up to 1.6 GPa, the melting temperature decreases. For higher pressure the slope of the liquidus changes and the triple point is found at 1.6 GPa. The behaviour of HgSe with pressure is more complicated. The melting temperature increases with pressure up to 0.7–0.8 GPa and then, it decreases up to 1.8 GPa. For this value of pressure, the curve slope changes the sign.
