Abstract

The cross sections for the charge-exchange reactions p(n, p)n and p(p, Δ ++)n at intermediate energies are calculated, using a constituent quark cluster model (CQCM) in the framework of the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA). We show that both reactions, which cannot be simultaneously and consistently described by meson exchanges, can be explained in a quark scheme. This provides an interesting example of how quark exchange effects may play an important role an intermediate energies.
