Abstract

Holographic waveguide display (HWD) is a promising solution supporting augmented reality, that can be applied in a variety of fields. Despite its advantage of lightweight and compact form factor, designing a HWD with large FOV and high efficiency simultaneously is still challenging. In this work, we revisit this FOV compromise issue and propose a HWD design incorporating space‐variant volume holographic gratings. The resulted prototype display achieves 20° FOV and 31.9% system efficiency.
