Abstract

AbstractWe demonstrated a fast liquid crystal (LC) display mode based on a nonchiral smectic C (NSC) LC with analog gray scales in a transverse electrode configuration and analyzed the display performances by means of two‐dimensional numerical simulation; In this configuration, wide viewing properties were also achieved. The analog gray scales in the NSC LC mode are obtained in a dielectrically driving scheme as those in the nematic LC mode.
