Abstract

Medical literature supports the findings that tight glycemic control decreases morbidity and mortality in post operative patients. The bariatric surgery patient population frequently requires intravenous (IV) insulin infusion to maintain blood sugars in the normal range. The bariatric surgeons did not want to admit these patients to critical care for administration of an insulin infusion protocol.
