Abstract
Cellulose acetate propionate (CAP) is employed in order to develop a biomass-based high performance transparent material by polymer blend technique. It is found that the blends composed of CAP and poly(epichlorohydrin) (PECH) show high level of transparency although phase-separated morphology is detected in the blend. The mutual dissolution of both components is responsible for the depression of light scattering. Further, the mechanical toughness, which is one of the serious problems for CAP, is considerably improved by blending PECH.
