Abstract

The effect of fiber/matrix interfacial properties on the mechanical properties of overall composite material is significant, and it is very important to understand the relation between the interfacial properties and the mechanical properties of the composite material in order to develop a high performance composite material. In the present study, the interfacial properties of SiC (Tyranno ZMI)/epoxy composite are investigated by using both the fragmentation test and single fiber tensile test. Both Tyranno ZMI fibers with and without sizing treatment are used. The tensile test on unidirectional composite is also performed to examine the effect of sizing treatment on the composite strength. To discuss the experimental results, a Monte Carlo simulation for the unidirectional composite strength is performed.
