Abstract

Automatic Semen Quality Analyzers (SQA) are being used for the regular assessment of semen samples during a fertility workup. SQA might reduce, at least theoretically, intra- en interobserver variability and thus provide a more reliable result. Very few data, however, are available on the usefulness of SQA to assess semen quality after sperm washing procedures for intra-uterine insemination (IUI). In particular the predictive value of SQA-derived sperm characteristics for the occurrence of pregnancy in couples undergoing IUI is unknown.
