Abstract

While numerous chemotherapy agents are known to cause ovarian follicle cell death, it is unknown whether chemotherapy has a detrimental effect on ovarian stromal cells. Our purpose was to ascertain whether the stromal function is altered in patients who had received chemo- and/or pelvic radiotherapy compared to those who did not receive previous treatment, as determined by in vitro estradiol production. Because ovarian cortical strips mostly contain primordial and primary follicles, in vitro production of estradiol would reflect stromal cell function.
