Abstract

In this work, we propose a step‐up switched‐capacitor (SC) power converter for the display driver ICs. Based on available topology with full voltage‐conversion‐ratio, it achieves voltage‐conversion‐ratios (VCRs) from 1 to 2n with only n (minimized number) flying capacitors. We focus on control scheme of the SC converter, and try to reduce the number of the power switches. Based on 0.18 μm HVBCD process, a 3‐stage SC converter has been designed, and the number of power switches has been reduced from 18 to 13. It has demonstrated performance improvements by 20% to 230% in the current‐drive‐capacity of the full VCRs, respectively. The maximum output current can be 12.2 mA, and the achieved peak efficiency is 93%.
