Abstract

Over the past six years we have been using Transabdominal Sonography guidance for all our Embryo Transfers (ETs). For the past two years we have added the Sureview® catheter to further refine our technique of ET. The principle of successful ET being depositing the embryos as gently as possible during IVF, avoiding maneuvers that might trigger uterine contractions which could adversely affect the results of this rate limiting step in human IVF. On one hand is an hypothesis that an immediate withdrawal could alter the position of the air-bubble alongwith the embryos due to a transient negative pressure created by the immediate withdrawl of the catheter towards the cervix and this could affect pregnancy rates.
