Abstract

Treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer is based on concomitant radio-chemotherapy followed by surgery in order to reduce the risk of local recurrence and increase overall survival. In some cases, adjuvant chemotherapy is also recommended to decrease the risk of metastatic recurrence. However, both local and metastatic recurrence have been reported. The aim of this study was to define clinicopathological parameters that could be factors influencing recurrence after perioperative radio-chemotherapy.
