Abstract

IVF cycles are associated with a risk of multiple pregnancy, but one of the benefits may be a reduced spontaneous abortion (SAB) rate due to multiple implantations. Two factors influencing the risk of multiple pregnancy are the age of the patient and the number of embryos transferred. Our hypothesis was that increased implantations may reduce the SAB rate and increase the likelihood of live birth (LB). We therefore examined the LB and multiple birth (MB) rates in cycles with 1, 2 or 3 gestational sacs (GS) on a 5 week ultrasonogram.
