Abstract

AbstractA novel handling method of ultra‐thin glass for thin and/or flexible displays is proposed. The carrier‐attached ultra‐thin glass substrate which is consisting of an ultra‐thin glass attached on a rigid carrier glass with a unique media layer and witch has good thermal and chemical durability is proposed. These carrier‐attached ultra‐thin glass substrates can be processed through conventional display manufacturing process, such LCDs or OLEDs, and also can be mechanically and easily separated to a thin display‐cell consisting of two ultra‐thin glasses and two carrier‐glasses after display‐cell assembling. Therefore this method enables to manufacture fragile, thin and flexible displays using conventional manufacturing equipments for LCDs or OLEDs, without chemical and/or mechanical thinning of thick display‐cells and also without using of roll‐to‐roll process equipment for manufacturing of flexible displays. Thus, this technology is sophisticated and much unique, and is expected to contribute the market expand of the future thinner and lighter displays including the flexible display.
