Abstract
AbstractWe propose surface polymer‐stabilized in‐plane field driven vertical alignment device using a liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy. The device requires long distance between electrodes to achieve higher transmittance, however, such a design results in increase in operating voltage and slow response time. Forming surface pretilt angle with utilization of polymer stabilization technique, operating voltage is reduced and response time is greatly improved even with long electrode distance.
