Abstract

In IVF, implantation rates are often used to evaluate the results of studies. Direct comparison of ICSI-IVF with transfer of Ova immediately after Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (Rapid ICSI-ZIFT) is not possible, because the number of eggs fertilized with Rapid ICSI-ZIFT is not known. Two different pieces of information suggest that in vivo-fertilized eggs possibly have a higher implantation rate. Ovum transfer data from the early 1980s showed that blastocysts and morula-stage embryos are usually recovered from the uterus 93.5 to 120 hours after the luteinizing hormone peak, and the transfer of just one recovered blastocyst results in a high pregnancy rate.
