Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore load transference with weight increase in children after 3-year follow-up and to identify the mechanism of force transference in feet with the weight changes. Totally 147 children (82 boys and 65 girls) in Shandong, China, which were selected from a database of 836 Chinese children, completed a plantar pressure measurement, and were followed-up for 3 years. Data of pressure parameters were recorded by Footscan® plate system. An algorithm was designed to quantify the plantar force transference with the weight increase. The results indicated that when children increase their weight from normal to overweight and obese, load transference mainly occurred from forefoot and midfoot to the heel. When children increase their weight from overweight to obese, plantar load not only transferred to the metatarsal, but also concentrated to the midfoot.
