P.014 Classiflcation of palate clefts by mechanism

Abstract

The technique of palatoplasty by double opposing z-plasty closes the hard palate in one procedure without pushback or lateral relaxing incisions, and repairs the soft palate with mirror image z-plasties that retroposition and overlap the palatal muscles to form a palatal muscle sling. There is some lengthening of the soft palate by the z-plasties, which does not take tissue from the hard palate. The speech results in my patients following this repair have been far better than in my patients undergoing Von Langenbeck repair with and without intravelar veloplasty. To date, maxillary growth has been encouraging.
