Abstract

Background: Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal malignant diseases with a dismal 5-year survival rate. Although surgery remains the only way to cure this disease, almost 80% patients are not suitable for surgical resection at the time of initial diagnosis because of locally deteriorated or metastatic disease. Diabetes mellitus and pancreatic cancer are intimately related that approximately 85% pancreatic cancer patients are suffered from glucose intolerance or even frank diabetes. Our previous study has demonstrated that hyperglycemia promoted the invasive and migratory activity of pancreatic cancer cells.
