Abstract
The electric field gradient asymmetry parameters for 35 Cl nuclei in compounds of the series Cl 2 C CHOR, Cl 2 CHOCOR etc . do not corroborate a widespread representation of a p,π-interaction between the unshared electron pair of a Cl atom and the π-electron double bond system in these molecules.
