Abstract

A 57 year old woman with primary hyperparathyroidism was found to have an oxyphil cell adenoma. With removal of the adenoma, the elevated serum calcium level returned to normal. This patient and others previously reported in the literature serve as examples to support the view that oxyphil cells are functional and can, on occasion, cause primary hyperparathyroidism.
