Abstract

The discovery that an oxygen-induced protease inhibitor favours fibrin deposition in the lungs could lead to new ways to avoid oxygen toxicity. A new study (J Clin Invest 1996; 98: 2666–73), provides the first direct evidence for a causal link between decreased plasminogen activator (PA) activity and development of hyaline-membrane disease.
