Abstract

We report an example of the potential dangers associated with the modification of anaesthetic apparatus. In this instance provision had been made for the inclusion of air in the gas mixture. The air flow control valve was placed by the piped gas supply entry yoke and not on the flowmeter block itself. It was discovered that oxygen leakage would occur if the compressed air supply was disconnected and the control valve accidentally left open.
