Abstract

We studied the diffusivity of oxygen in melt-processed Sm–Ba–Cu–O (SmBCO) and Y–Ba–Cu–O (YBCO) bulk-superconductors. The chemical diffusion coefficients of oxygen estimated from the experimental results show that the addition of silver suppresses the oxygen diffusivity in melt-processed bulk-superconductors. On the other hand, the diffusion coefficients of SmBCO/Ag and YBCO/Ag were almost identical. We discuss the effect of Ag addition on the oxygen diffusivity by examining the microstructure of the samples. It is also shown that annealing at a lower temperature than YBCO is necessary to extract the high potential of SmBCO.
