Abstract

The role of myoglobin in the function of muscle fibres has been the subject of many investigations. For many years it was thought that its main function in muscle is to act as a resevoir for oxygen with which it combines reversibly. In the 1960’s, however, there were a number of papers which suggested that myoglobin is involved in intracellular oxygen transport.
